JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Residents in a north Jackson neighborhood say they've been hit by thieves, who are after high dollar items, in recent weeks.

By the time Steven Rosario's neighbor saw the strangers pulling off with Rosario's trailer and mower it was too late.

"All he could say it was probably a new Dodge or Ford white or silver in color. It was very vague the description we got.  It was a 2012 Scag Tigercat. It's an $8,000 mower. I'd paid the first payment that week it was stolen," Rosario said.

The brazen theft happened right in the middle of the day on Wayneland Drive while his wife was home. Rosario says the mower, which he uses for his landscaping business, was not insured.

"In the meantime, I had to get a $3,000 loan. I'm already paying $7,000 financed on the Scag. That's something I'll have to keep paying. It's a learning lesson for me as far as insurance goes, you have to lock it up," Rosario said.

Rosario says someone tried to steal his replacement mower about a week after the first theft.

Although the chances are slim his mower will be returned, Rosario has a message for those who took it.

"I want them to think and for god to reach them in the way he's reached so many and stop this from happening," Rosario said.

Jackson police say the lawnmower has not been recovered.  Residents are being reminded to lock up all items no matter how large or how difficult they may seem to steal.
