Brooks County's Parrish commits to UGA

Brooks County football star Malkom Parrish announced Thursday morning he plans to sign with the University of Georgia in February.

Parrish made the announcement after a summer workout.

He says his relationship with the coaches in Athens, and how hard the Dawgs' staff recruited him is what finally sold him on committing to UGA.

"When I went up there, they just amazed me. They practically gave me the red carpet," the four-star recruit says. "They were non-stop trying to get me there, and I admired their effort. If they do that now, they'll do it then when I'm up there."

Parrish has been a starter at quarterback for the Trojans since his freshman season.

He also plays defensive back which is where the Bulldogs plan for him to play in Athens.

Parrish says his commit is final, and he has eyes for no other school.

"It's just Georgia," he says. "My mom raised me that way. Once you say something, stick with it, and that's what I'm going to do."

Georgia Tech was the other finalist and the Yellow Jackets reportedly were eyeing Parrish for his offensive skills.

Parrish hadn't told anyone, including his mother, where he planned to commit. But she says Georgia was her number one choice, and she was ecstatic when he pulled the red Georgia hat out of his bag.

Malkom Parrish led Brooks County to the 1-AA title and the state quarterfinals last year.

WALB News 10's Jake Wallace was in Quitman for the announcement and will have more on Thursday at WALB News 10.
