BYRAM, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Authorities in Hinds and Rankin counties recovered the body of a man who jumped into the Pearl River Tuesday.

The body was located Wednesday, but the conditions in the river prevented them from recovering it until Thursday afternoon.

A friend of the victim identified the 37-year-old man as Mark Kuhn.

Police say Kuhn didn't resurface after he jumped from the Byram Swinging Bridge Tuesday afternoon.

A man who identified himself as the victim's brother-in-law said he tried unsuccessfully to save the man, but the current was too strong.

It's about a 30-foot drop from the bridge to the water.

"The odds of you landing safely, jumping off this bridge, I would say are very slim," said Bob Wedgeworth of Rankin County Emergency Operations.

Several fire and safety agencies assisted in the search.
