Man arrested, store clerk injured after botched robbery attempt

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

A Biloxi man was arrested Monday after an armed robbery attempt Sunday, according to D'Iberville Chief of Police Wayne Payne.

Payne said 26-year-old Derrick Matthew Bryant was arrested and charged with armed robbery.

His charge stems after he reportedly attempted to rob a Texaco gas station on Popps Ferry Road in D'Iberville Sunday morning.

According to D'Iberville police Lt. Terry Hines, Bryant tried grabbing money from the cash register after jumping over the counter with a knife in his hand.

The clerk fought off Bryant, who allegedly cut her hand in the process.

Hines said, thanks to the quick reaction of the clerk, Bryant wasn't able to take any money during the robbery. When police arrived at the gas station, they found the clerk bleeding from a cut on her hand.

The clerk was transported to the hospital and later released.

Bryant was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $250,000.00 bond set by Judge Albert Fountain for Robbery.
