LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, a 6-year-old girl is in critical condition after the boat she was riding in crashed into a tree Sunday afternoon.

According to LDFW, the crash happened on the Natalbany River, three miles upstream from where it meets the Tickfaw River.

Reports say the operator of a 22-foot ski boat was towing a tube with two juveniles on it when he lost control of the boat. The boat ran into the bank and hit a tree. The 6-year-old girl suffered head trauma and was airlifted to OLOL.

Reports say the girl was among five people in the boat.

The boat operator had moderate injuries, including a broken foot.

The other three on board suffered minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation. It is unknown if the crash was due to operator or mechanical error. A blood sample was taken from the driver, which is standard procedure. Results from that test could take up to four weeks.

There is no word on if any charges will be filed.
