Mookie Blaylock granted bond in fatal Clayton County accident

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Former Atlanta Hawks basketball star Daron "Mookie" Blaylock was granted bond Tuesday after facing charges related to a deadly crash.

Blaylock, 46, was hospitalized following a traffic accident on Tara Boulevard in Clayton County late last month. On Monday he was released from the hospital and turned himself in to Jonesboro police.

Police said Blaylock's car hit a van injuring the van's passenger, Monica Murphy, who later died at the hospital.

Jonesboro police Chief Franklin Allen said Sunday that Blaylock is charged with driving on a suspended license and failing to stay in his lane.

Blaylock was granted a $250,000 bond, but has yet to bond out of the Clayton County Jail.

Talks with prosecutors will determine whether Blaylock will face other charges.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Blaylock has an active warrant in an unrelated DUI case. A hold was placed on him in Spalding County.

    Bay St. Louis police chief Gary Ponthieux says that at some point Monday, he hopes to release new information about a shooting on Sycamore Street. So far, the chief has shared preliminary information. At just before 3:00 p.m. Sunday, officers were called about a shooting in the area of Sycamore Street and St. Francis Street. When the officers arrived, Ponthieux reports they found two gunshot victims in a wrecked car. They also found a third injured person in the area.
