BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi State reportedly is going to receive NCAA penalties involving the Bulldogs football program.  ESPN is reporting that the NCAA will announce the infractions at a conference all on Friday beginning at 10 in the morning.

Vancleave High School announced the hiring of Daniel Threadgill as the Bulldogs new baseball coach.  He guided Kossuth High School to the 3A State finals.

Poplarville High School fast pitch softball ace Rachel Hickman was named the 2012-13 Gatorade Mississippi Softball Player of the Year.  She's in contention for the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award to be announced later this month.  The right-handed pitcher record a 27-4 record with a 0.58 earned run average, 325 strikeouts and only 35 walks in 194 innings.  Hickman guided the Hornets to the Class 4A state semifinals.  Besides her pitching success, Hickman batted .441 with a home run and 32 RBI.

South Carolina has hired former Tulane and Miami head basketball coach as an assistant.  He replaces Brad Underwood who left in April to become head coach at Stephen F. Austin.

Harrison Central & D'Iberville High School are both getting new artificial turf on their football fields.  The total cost of putting in the new football turf and renovation of the stadiums and new tracks will be $1.2 million.
