10am Update-Florida begins feeling tropical storm conditions

West Florida is beginning to feel Tropical Storm Andrea, as the storm moves toward the big bend area.

WLOX Meteorologist Tommy Richards said the storm is not a threat to South Mississippi, but that we can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms as Andrea helps to pull a cold front through our area.

At 10am, the National Hurricane Center placed Andrea at 28.2N, 84.3W. That's about 110 miles west of Tampa, Florida. Andrea had maximum sustained winds near 60 miles per hour. It was moving toward the northeast around 15 miles per hour.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the west coast of Florida from Boca Grande to Indian Pass.

The center of Andrea was expected to reach the coast of the Florida Big Bend on Thursday afternoon or evening and then move over Florida to southeastern Georgia and eastern South Carolina.
