HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - An incident in Saucier ended safely, but caused quite a bit of commotion on Pete Hickman Road Wednesday night.
Captain Thomas Clifford with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department told WLOX News a resident found something that looked like a mortar round/shell in his mailbox Wednesday night and called officials.
ATF agents, the Biloxi Bomb Squad and Harrison County Sheriff's deputies all responded to the call. Clifford said all necessary precautions were immediately taken, including closing the roadway, quarantining the surrounding area, and evacuating some residents.
Bomb squad officials were able to safely retrieve the item from the mailbox and dispose of it.
No one has been arrested and no direct threats were made. There's No word yet on how the suspicious item got into the mailbox.
