BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi State sophomore pitcher Jonathan Holder is one of five finalists for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award.
Holder carries a 2-0 record, a 1.17 earned run average and a SEC's co-leader and a Mississippi State record with 17 saves. Opponents generated only six earned runs against Holder, who has 81 strikeouts in 46.0 innings pitched.
The former Gulfport Admirals standout is a first-team 2013 Louisville Slugger All-American and a first-team All-Southeastern Conference pick.
The other finalists are: NCAA saves-leader Tyler Rogers of Austin Peay, Michael Lorenzen of Cal State Fullerton, David Berg of UCLA, and Jimmy Sherfy of Oregon.
The NCBWA All-America Committee will announce the 2013 Stopper of the Year winner on June 15 in Omaha, Nebraska at 10:00 a.m. at TD Ameritrade Park.
Holder is going to be counted on when Mississippi State opens the NCAA Super Regional best-of-three playoff series 12:00 p.m. Saturday in Charlottesville facing home standing Virginia, the #6 national seed.
