GSU to hold groundbreaking for Paulson Stadium expansion projects

Georgia Southern University will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for two major expansion projects at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. 

A $10 million privately funded football operations center will be built in the East End Zone.  

The 50,000-sq. foot Football Operations Center, to be located between the east end zone and Lanier Drive, provides space for the essential functions of the Eagle Football program in one central location with locker rooms, meeting spaces, coaches' offices, strength and conditioning, athletic training and equipment.  In addition to serving as the day-to-day center for the team, the facility will also include a large Hall of Fame exhibit area to display the program's history and honor Georgia Southern legends.

In addition, more than 6,000 seats, including an upper deck, will be added to the north stands of the stadium. 

The expansion was contingent on a student vote that took place back in September 2012. The University's students agreed to pay a fee tagged on to tuition cost. The money that student put forth is what will pay for the added stadium seats.

The Paulson Stadium expansion will provide additional seating for the University's spring Commencement as well as other events.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and is open to the public.

The renovations to Paulson Stadium come on the heels for GSU's acceptance into the Football Bowl Subdivision Sun Belt Conference.

    Police have one person in custody followed an alleged armed robbery in Ocean Springs Wednesday evening.

    Ocean Springs police say three more people reportedly linked to a Walmart armed robbery are in custody. One suspect is a 16-year-old. The others are 18-year-old Albert Morgan III and 20-year-old Gary Desean Perkins. Police charged the trio with armed robbery. Investigators say they were in the get away vehicle Wednesday when Nicholas Jvante Brothern reportedly jumped in and took off.
