Biloxi: Newman wins Ward 3 council race; Holloway wins mayoral race

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Dixie Newman (R) won the Biloxi City Council race in Ward 3. Biloxi incumbent mayor A.J. Holloway (R) won his 6th term in office Tuesday night.

Newman beat incumbent Lucy Denton (D) with 60 percent of the vote. Holloway won with 74 percent of the vote. His opponent Jess Kennedy (D) lost with 26 percent of the vote.

Newman, a 27-year-old, Biloxi native, has worked as a real estate agent and most recently at the district attorney's office. 

Holloway graduated from Biloxi High School and the University of Mississippi (bachelor's degree in education). He played in two Sugar Bowls and a Cotton Bowl while at Ole Miss and on the 1960 Rebels national championship football team.

    Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to arrive on the Coast tomorrow to examine wreckage from that Cessna 172 that crashed this morning just north of the Diamondhead Airport.
