Local Sports: D'Iberville names new coaches & MGCCC players sign

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

D'Iberville: Lorenzo Wright has been named new boys head basketball coach at D'Iberville High School.  He has served as an assistant coach at Gulfport High School.

The Warriors also named a new baseball coach Monday night.  He's Craigen Gilbert who also served as an assistant coach at Gulfport High School.

D'Iberville will announce the Lady Warriors new softball coach at a later date.

Perkinston: Mississippi Gulf Coast proved to be a stepping stone for two Bulldog basketball players.  Sophomore JaMichael Hawkins signed with Southeastern Louisiana.  The 6-foot-3 guard from Jackson, netted 17.7 points per game during the 2012-13 season.  He was second in the MACJC both in scoring and three point field goals.

Angel Matias inked a basketball scholarship with Georgia Southern.  The 6-foot-4 forward is from San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Matias averaged 17.5 points per game but suffered an injury that sidelined him for the second half of the 2012-13 season.  Matias helped the Bulldogs of head coach Wendell Weathers win a second straight MACJC title in the 2011-12 season.

Baton Rouge: When LSU opens the NCAA Super Regional hosting Oklahoma, the Tigers will have their top three pitchers ready for the best-of-three playoff series.  Sophomore Cody Glenn has returned to the Tigers active 27-man roster after he was suspended last week for breaking an unspecified violation of team rules.

Coach Paul Mainieri announced Glenn's reinstatement Monday and says the action came after Glenn apologized to his teammates who voted to allow him back on the team.  Glenn has posted 7 wins and 2 defeats with a 2.41 earned run average.
