WESSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A handcuffed suspect fled into the woods of Copiah County Sunday leading troopers on a manhunt before being recaptured hours later.

Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol combed the woods along I-55 near a Wesson truck stop for more than three hours.

Corporal Odis Easterling said shortly after noon 61-year-old Larry Jarrell was taken into custody for intoxication.

He was handcuffed when he broke away and ran into the nearby woods.

Jarrell was not considered dangerous but managed to make his way through the rough terrain while in handcuffs.

Easterling said Jarrell was found walking north on I-55 and was apprehended without incident sometime before 3:30 p.m.
