VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An inmate who attacked a guard early Sunday morning and escaped from the Warren County Detention Center was recaptured Monday.

Sheriff Martin Pace confirmed Monday morning just after 10 a.m. that Johnathan Clark, a Vicksburg pre-trial inmate, was recaptured by authorities after making an escape that began on the second floor of the jail house after midnight Sunday morning.

Clark hid behind a door and threw an irritant into a detention officers' eyes then began to assault him, according to Pace. Clark then took the guard's keys, opened the primary door, and broke a lock on a basement maintenance door and fled.

The unidentified jailer was treated and released from River Region Medical Center for facial injuries.

Clark, 19, was arrested by Vicksburg Police on aggravated assault and robbery charges.

Sheriff Pace has not yet confirmed what charges Clark will face in connection to the escape.
