Officials say man was lying on the road when struck by car

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Harrison County Sheriff's Department says Jerimiah Daniel Patterson, 29, of Gulfport was alive and lying on the road before he was hit and killed by a vehicle.

The Wednesday morning accident happened on Wolf River Road near Jake Bell Road near Pass Christian.

Maj. Ron Pullen says once the driver hit Patterson he immediately stopped and called 911.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says fingerprints helped authorities identify Patterson since he had no identification on him. An autopsy revealed Patterson died from blunt force trauma, Hargrove said.

Toxicology results are pending on the victim.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle. Anyone that had any contact with Patterson prior to the accident should contact the Harrison County Sheriff's Department at 228-865-7060 or Criminal Investigations at 228-896-0678.
