HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - On Tuesday the Mississippi Department of Environmental Equality (MDEQ) issued a temporary water contact advisory for Joe's Bayou near Felicity Street in Bay St. Louis.
According to MDEQ the advisory was issued because of a city reported sewer spill that happened on Sunday. That spill was reportedly caused by a malfunctioning pump station.
Overflow has stopped and the city is fixing the issue, according to MDEQ.
Until further notice, MDEQ recommends citizens avoid swimming or wading in the waters. They also discourage eating fish or anything else caught in the waters.
MDEQ is monitoring bacteria levels and water quality and will revise the advisory as needed.
