GEORGE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Charges have been upgraded on the George County man accused of setting his dog on fire. Since the dog has died, Brandon Pierce, 20, is now charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
According to the George County Sheriff's Department, there were two other warrants out of Pierce: One for simple assault in a case where he allegedly stabbed his mother, and the other for possession of marijuana.
An anonymous 911 caller first alerted deputies to the trouble Tuesday night. The caller said Pierce had set his dog on fire and was "going psycho while crazy on meth" at a residence on Greenwood Road in Lucedale.
When deputies entered the home, they said they found Pierce in the bedroom acting erratically. That's when he told the deputies he was trying to kill his dog because he "wanted to help the dog go to heaven."
