Runoff election decides several races across South Mississippi

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Four incumbents' names will not be on the general election ballots after Tuesday's primary run off elections.

Kenny Glavan is the new councilman for Biloxi Ward 6. He beat incumbent Ed Gemmill by a large majority. Glavan does not have opposition in June.

Mike Impey will be the next Ward 6 Alderman in Ocean Springs. He beat Incumbent James Hagan, and has no opposition in June.

In Pascagoula, voters in the Republican primary for the At Large council seat elected Brenda Simkins over Incumbent Harold Tillman. Simkins faces no opposition in the general election.

Picayune's new councilman from Precinct 1 will be Tammy Valente, who beat Incumbent Larry Watkins. Valente faces no opposition in June.

In other races, Mike Favre won the Bay St. Louis Democrat - At Large nomination Tuesday night. In the general election, he faces Republican Gary Knoblock and Independents Clark Breland and Johanna Spicuzza.

In the Biloxi Republican Primary Runoff for Council Ward 3, Dixie Newman won the nomination. She faces Incumbent Lucy Denton in June.

In the Biloxi Republican Primary Runoff for Ward 4, Robert Deming will be the new councilman as there is no opposition in June. Current Councilman Clark Griffith did not seek re-election.

In Diamondhead, Blaine LaFontaine is the new councilman from Ward 2. This republican primary decides the election because there is no opposition in the general election.

Thomas Sislow won the nomination for Diamondhead's Republican Ward 3. He faces Independent Michael Schaefer June 4th.

Over in Gulfport there was one republican primary run off in Ward 5. Republican Myles Sharp won the primary runoff. In June, Sharp will face Democrat James Beal.

In Lucedale's Ward 1 Democratic runoff, Incumbent Carrie Moulds is the winner because there is no opposition in June.

The Republican candidate in Ward 5 in Pascagoula will be Scott Tipton. In the general election, he faces Democrat William Keeton.

    Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to arrive on the Coast tomorrow to examine wreckage from that Cessna 172 that crashed this morning just north of the Diamondhead Airport.
