Harrison Central taking aim on first-ever state baseball title

LYMAN, MS (WLOX) - Harrison Central got in batting practice Monday afternoon. Hitting has been a major factor in the Red Rebels success.

Coach Pat Olmi says the Southaven Chargers will send a solid pitching staff against his solid batting lineup.

Olmi said, "Southaven's main weapon is their pitchers. Our main weapon is our hitters, so it should be a great contest."

Bobby Bradley is batting .567 with 32 RBI's and 8 home runs. He knows this Red Rebels baseball team can do something no other Harrison Central baseball team has accomplished, win a State Championship.

Bradley stated, "We deserve it. We worked hard and go out on the field everyday, rain or shine. It would mean a lot."

James Land said, "Being the one that finally won a South State baseball title we made history at this school. I would like to continue to win and bring a state title to the South."

Derrick Mount has become a consistent lead-off hitter for the Red Rebels. He says working with former Major Leaguer Matt Lawton, a Harrison Central graduate, helping him tremendously at the plate.

Mount said,"When I decided not to play football, got in the weight room with him and worked out everyday. I hit everyday and he just showed me how to hit."

Justin Barna added, "The main thing that we have we have heart and we work harder than anybody in the state."

Harrison Central ace Bryant Johnston has been tabbed the starter in game one Thursday.
