A Pearl River County man died in a house fire this morning. Sheriff's officials say 83 year-old Prentiss James died when the house he and his wife shared went up in flames. The fire broke out at around 8 am at 15 Eden Lane, just outside of the Picayune city limits off Highway 13.
His wife, 88 year-old Annie Mae Abram managed to escape the blaze unharmed. She told authorities her husband woke her up when he smelled smoke and got her out of the house. He then went back in to get some items and never returned. His body was found in the kitchen area of the home near a back door.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
