One person dead following motorcycle and 18-wheeler accident

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

DPS officials confirm that one person is dead following an accident Sunday morning involving a motorcycle and an 18-wheeler near Troup.

Authorities said the accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 2142 and County Road 2152 at 10:11 A.M.

Officials said the 18-wheeler was traveling southbound on CR 2142 before beginning to turn left onto CR 2152. At the same time, two motorcycles were traveling northbound on CR 2142 approaching the intersection.

Authorities said the first motorcycle, driven by Craig Hobbs of Whitehouse, slid under the tractor-trailer and avoided impact.

The second motorcycle driven by 35-year-old Michael Barry of Arp collided with the 18-wheeler. Barry was transported to ETMC where he was pronounced as deceased.

Authorities said both motorcyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

It is not yet known who is at fault in this accident.
