Delta, LA (MSNEWSNOW.Com) -

After Powerball fever hit Wednesday with the jackpot at $360 million, the third highest in history, there are sure to be even more hopefuls as the winning total soars to $475 million with no Wednesday winner.

Thousands of lottery hopefuls in the Magnolia State hit the road to try their luck.

Mississippians made the trek across the river to purchase Powerball tickets with dreams of becoming instant multi-millionaires.

While lines of ticket purchasers didn't quite fill up the parking lots in the $360 million jackpot, sales did increase.

"I'd share with my family, including you," said Charles Dampier.

When it comes to work, the Clinton resident said he would get things in order before walking out the door on his nine-to-five.

"First of all I'd make sure I got the winning numbers first and then I'd make plans, get a lawyer and make sure my money's in the right spot, and then I would quit my job," smiles Dampier.

Some lottery players have special numbers they always play like birthdays and anniversaries. Others rely on the computer to choose what they hope is the winning combination.

"Everybody from Mississippi [is] coming over to Louisiana to buy lottery tickets, and Mississippi and Alabama [are] the only states that don't have the lottery. Looks like we could get it. All this tax would be coming to our state," said Mark Bonner of Bolton.

According to the lottery web site, the most recent Powerball jackpot won in Louisiana was $85.7 million in July of 2010. Players say its about time for a Mississippian to take home the big prize.

Angela Miller of Vicksburg will take a Caribbean cruise if she wins.

"Most of the winners are way up north somewhere. It's never here in the hometown where the poor people are that really need that type of money. I still need insurance benefits so I will continue to work after I win the $360 million. I play the lottery all the time, hoping one day my number will come up," said Miller.

After no one was able to claim Wednesday night's $360 million prize, the jackpot amount rose to $475 million. The take home for the top prize would be a lump sum $302 million. The next chance to win is Saturday night. Check out previous winning numbers and locations to buy your ticket.
