WLOX Editorial: Invest in the future

Posted: Updated:

As we head into the summer months, high school and college students find themselves with time on their hands. While vacations are great, we would urge young people to use their time wisely.  Summer jobs can be the best way to invest in your own future.

To employers, hiring young people during their summer breaks can be a good investment in the future of your company. For a relatively small summertime investment, you get to learn the work ethic and tenacity of your temporary employee. You may just find that diamond in the rough. Then when it's time to hire a full time employee after graduation, you already know that this could be a star employee; making your investment well worth it.

For the young person looking for a job in a competitive job market, that summer work experience you gain could be very important to your career prospects for a lifetime.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
