Deputies discover drugs, firearms following traffic stop

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A traffic stop on I-10 resulted in the arrest of two men allegedly found with marijuana and firearms, according to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd.

Byrd said, Samuel Letroy Smith, 32, and Olympia Shawnta Ellison, 32, both of Austin, TX were initially stopped by the Jackson County Criminal Interdiction Division for speeding and following to close. However, when authorities began searching the vehicle they reportedly discovered marijuana and firearms.

The two were charged with one count possession of controlled substance, marijuana enhanced while in possession of a firearm.

Byrd said, the suspects are being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center awaiting initial appearances set for May 14.

Anyone with information concerning illegal drug activity should call the Jackson County Narcotics Division at 228-769-3302. All calls will remain anonymous.
