Volunteers will make Mississippi waterways sparkle

Posted: Updated:
BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Mississippi Power and a team of volunteers will spend this sparkling Tuesday adding a bit more sparkle to South Mississippi's waterways.  Cleanup teams will meet near Biloxi's Back Bay at 8:00 this morning to participate in the company's Renew Our Rivers initiative.

Mississippi Power's first Renew Our Rivers cleanup was in 2000.  Since then, millions of pounds of debris have been pulled from waterways in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

According to a Mississippi Power website, this is one of the largest river systems cleanup efforts in the Southeast.

The cleanup teams in Biloxi will meet at the north end of the I-110 bridge.  Today's cleanup runs from 8:00am-3:00pm.
