JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations has finished it's investigation of on the shooting death of Jackson Police Detective Eric Smith. It happened April fourth when gunshots rang out inside the Jackson police headquarters.

Smith had been questioning 23-year-old Jeremy Powell in connection with the murder of Christopher Alexander. Officers went in and found both men dead.

The case was turned over to MBI, which has now reported to District Attorney Robert Schuler Smith.

"We may send the case to the grand jury, if necessary, but right now, the conclusion is that it it's a murder suicide," said Smith.

Smith would not go beyond that statement, but we know from previously released information that Powell shot Smith to death before turning Smith's gun on himself.
