JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The man leading the race for Jackson mayor just picked up support from a former opponent.

Ward 4 Councilman Frank Bluntson endorsed businessman Jonathan Lee Sunday.

Lee received 34% of the vote and will face Jackson Ward 2 Councilman Chokwe Lumumba in the runoff.

Bluntson says he endorsed lee because they share similar platforms, particularly unifying the city.

"We can't be a divided city here. we've got to be brought together. Black, white, Indians everybody has got to be brought together and that's what I was all about, bringing people together and opening the government up too, not have it so closed," said Bluntson.

"If it wasn't for folks like Frank Bluntson, a 35-year-old black guy like me wouldn't have a chance running for mayor in a town the size of Jackson. He blazed the trail. He's done the work and now I look forward to having his wisdom going forward to help direct me, direct the city," Lee said.

Bluntson finished 5th in the mayoral race, garnering 2.6% or more than 900 votes.
