Southaven's Davis: $70K spent with aldermen's permission

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - As Southaven Mayor Greg Davis' trial is set to continue in Jackson, there is talk of a possible settlement.

The civil case against Mayor Davis centers around the state auditor's effort to collect more than $70,000 in public money allegedly spent on personal matters.

Davis has already paid back $96,000 of the original $170,000 the state claimed he defrauded.

He believes additional information presented Monday will prove the remainder was spent legitimately with permission from the board of aldermen.

"Both sides agreed to an order that every penny was approved by seven aldermen. It's not like I went down and wrote myself a check," Davis said.

Several city officials are expected to take the stand this week.

Davis is currently seeking reelection as an independent candidate.

The general election is June 4.
