WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

A Waveland man drowned Thursday night in a pond near his home. Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk identified the victim as Robert Trail, 53.

Trail was swimming in the pond behind Oak Leaf Trailer Park, where he lived. The park is located on Waveland Kiln Cutoff Road.

Waveland Police Investigator Eddie Peterson said about 10 to 15 minutes after Trail went in the water, two people saw him floating. They told police they jumped in the water and brought him to shore.

Trail was pronounced dead at the scene around 6:15pm. Right now, authorities believe the death was an accident and no foul play is suspected, but the investigation is continuing. An autopsy will be conducted Friday.

Trail's family said he had been complaining of chest pains recently.
