GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - When he went to bed, Hurley Ray Guillotte didn't know if he would still be Gautier's Ward 2 councilman. His primary race against Natasha Rankins ended in a draw. Both democrats received 123 votes.
This morning, election officials added the absentee and affidavit ballots to the final tally. And a draw suddenly became a victory for the incumbent. The margin was much wider than anybody could have predicted.
Guillotte received 27 of the 31 absentee votes. He also picked up the only affidavit ballot that was analyzed. So what was a statistical dead heat became a 24 vote victory for the incumbent. With no opposition in the general election, Guillotte has been re-elected to Gautier's ward 2 council seat.
