PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) - A seemingly routine transaction at a Slidell gas station turned ugly when the customer allegedly reached over the counter, grabbed money out of the register and managed to run off with $20.
Now a Picayune man is accused of robbing that gas station.
According to Slidell Police Detective Daniel Seuzeneau, that man is 46-year-old Christopher Nelson.
He reportedly stopped by the Stop and Buy gas station in Slidell on Tuesday, April 30 around 12:30 p.m. He walked up to the counter with a drink, Seuzeneau said.
Once the clerk scanned the drink, Nelson handed her money and she opened the her register, Seuzeneau said. But instead of waiting for his change, Nelson allegedly reached over the counter and grabbed several twenty dollar bills from the register.
The clerk fought back and was able to grab all, but one twenty dollar bill.
Nelson ran out of the store and into his white Ford Taurus. A witness wrote down Nelson's license plate number.
Slidell police tracked that license number and discovered Nelson's name and address.
Picayune police and Pearl River County Sheriff's deputies were contacted.
They arrived at Nelson's home at the 100 block of Huntington Drive in Picayune.
Picayune Assistant to the Chief of Police Jeremy Magri said, Nelson was in the front yard wearing the same outfit he had on during the alleged robbery.
Authorities arrested Nelson and Slidell police issued an arrest warrant for simple robbery.
He was later picked up by Slidell police and has since been released from jail. He now faces a charge of simple robbery.
