Voter turnout steady in cities across South Mississippi

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - There is a festive atmosphere outside the D'Iberville Civic Center on this city election day. That's because everyone in the city votes at this one location.

Consequently, all the candidates and their representatives wave signs and do some last minute campaigning outside the polling place. Hundreds of colorful campaign signs compete for voters' attention.

That's where we also found Mayor Rusty Quave campaigning, along with his two opponents, Jimmy Nichols and Travis Burke.

Poll workers in D'Iberville say voter turnout has been steady so far today. Voters in cities all across the state have until 7:00 tonight to choose party nominees.

In cities like Pascagoula and D'Iberville, there are no democrats running for mayor. So, republican voters will use today's primary to select the next mayors in those cities.
