FD: Hiker dies on Piestewa Peak trail

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A retired New Jersey criminal justice detective collapsed and died while hiking Piestewa Peak on Sunday, Phoenix firefighters said.

The man "had some sort of medical issue and collapsed" on the Summit Trail, according to Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Capt. Troy Caskey.

Bystanders performed CPR, but by the time firefighters reached him, he had died, Caskey said.

The name of the victim was not released.   

No other information was immediately available.
