PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

An Arizona woman injured in a mass shooting near Tucson and a mother whose son was killed in last year's movie theater shooting in Colorado were among several people demanding a meeting with Republican Sen. Jeff Flake over his vote against gun control legislation.

The gun violence victims and roughly 20 other gun control activists rallied outside Flake's Phoenix office Thursday morning.

Jennifer Longdon was paralyzed by gunfire in 2004 while walking with her fiancé, who is now in a 24/7 care facility, she said.

"He said he wanted dialogue. So far, it's been a monologue," she said while asking Flake to meet with members of the group.

Flake has said he supports expanded background checks but voted against the so-called Manchin-Toomey measure that would have done just that because it would have expanded the checks to cover some private gun sales between family members and friends.

Caren Teves, the mother of 24-year-old Alex Teves who was killed in Auroroa, CO, while shielding his future wife, and Mary Reed, who was shot in Tucson shielding her daughter during the same shooting spree that killed six people and wounded 18, including then U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, also demanded Flake engage them and reconsider his stance.

Since the vote last month, Flake has declined to meet with gun violence victims who have pledged to regularly protest at his Phoenix office until they get a response.
