RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mississippi Department of Transportation officials say work has been halted on the split diamond project on Interstate 55 in Ridgeland. Rainy weather has made the ground too wet to work.

There, however, say there is no danger of not reaching the goal of their completion date.

"Were still on track here.  We factor in rain days based on climate from the year before," says Project Manager Brian Ratliff.

Construction on the interchange will begin when the ground dries up, which could take a couple of days.

So far, there aren't any roads in the metro in threat of closure from flooding.

MDOT officials are also monitoring erosion from rain which can cause some roads to crack, and the shoulder to give way.
