KEMPER COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation confirms 6-year-old Jashayla Hopson has been found in Lauderdale County. She's being taken to Rush Hospital in Meridian for observation.
An Amber Alert had been issued for Hopson who was kidnapped from her elementary school Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
Local, state and federal authorities were involved in the search for Hopson. Authorities say Hopson had last been seen at East Kemper Elementary School in Scooba around noon Tuesday, when she left with an unidentified woman.
Kemper County Sheriff James Moore says the woman came to the school library, called Jashayla by name and left with her. The librarian did not know the woman had not followed procedure and checked the child out through the office.
Hopson's family discovered she was missing when she did not get off the school bus.
Officials say the woman who took Jashayla is described as a black or possibly Hispanic female with tattoos of stars on one foot, and a butterfly tattoo on the opposite leg.
