Meridian mayoral candidate finds noose at his business

MERIDIAN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The FBI's Jackson office says the agency is monitoring an investigation into the placement of a noose at Meridian mayoral candidate Percy Bland's business. They're trying  to determine whether there's been a violation of federal law.

Bland's office manager reported finding what appears to be a noose around the neck of a toy dog.

Bland says police dusted for fingerprints and the meridian office of the FBI was notified.

He says he will not be intimidated.

"This is a cowardly act, designed to intimidate, scare and terrorize," said Bland. "We have notified the proper authorities. There is no place for this in our society. I have a simple message to the person or the people who did this. I am not afraid of you. We are going to continue to focus on running a successful campaign for mayor."

The mayoral election is May 7.
