Recovery committee meets for final time since 2011 tornadoes

JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

It's been two years since tornadoes ravaged North Alabama.

But, the work for the Jackson and DeKalb County Long-term Recovery Committee is just now coming to an end.

The group recently held their final meeting since the storms first broke out on April 27, 2011.

Volunteers came from 27 states and from Canada, too.

"It wears us out sometimes and stretches us and it keeps us busy, but it's been a good-busy, because we know we're doing a good thing. We know we're helping people and we give God all the glory," said committee chairman David Patty.

So far, the projects have run close to a total of $670,000.

Patty said, however, they have volunteers scheduled for the next several months.

He expects the final work to be completed sometime in August.
