4 sustain major injuries in 2 vehicle accident in Smith County

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Emergency crews responded to the scene of a one vehicle rollover reported on County Road 134 at FM 2813.

According to Department of Public Safety trooper Chad Skidmore, a Dodge pickup towing a trailer collided with a Ford Explorer, causing the Ford to overturn. There were two people in the Ford and three in the Dodge. The five victims range in age from 22-50 years.

The Dodge, driven by Scott Pope, 43, of Hawkins, was traveling westbound on FM 2813 when the Ford, driven by Omar Saucedo, 29, of Tyler, turned left in front of the Dodge pickup. The pickup then struck the Ford.

Four individuals are being treated for major injuries, while one person was treated and released. One of the four is very unstable at this time. Victims were transported to Trinity Mother Frances Hospital and East Texas Medical Center. 

There was smoke coming from the Ford Explorer after the accident, but passersby with fire extinguishers helped before fire crews arrived

The driver of the Ford Explorer will be cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.
