PONCHATOULA, LA (WAFB) -

Ponchatoula High School remains on lock down after a fatal shooting that happened just after 7:30 a.m. near the school.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunshots in the 39000 block of Brookfield Drive in Ponchatoula, LA. Deputies found 39-year-old April Vanderlinden with gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Ryan Pourciau, 18, is a person of interest in the shooting and TPSO holds an active warrant on him. According to TPSO, Pourciau has connections to Ponchatoula High School and because the shooting happened less than two miles from the school, officials placed the school on lock down until further notice.

According to WWL-TV, Pourciau lives in the same neighborhood where Vanderlin was killed. A spokesperson said police had been called to the residence several times, though it was not said why those calls were made or what the incidents involved.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
