BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A woman is hospitalized after being shot in the street Monday night.

It happened in the 5200 block of Stearnes Street in north Baton Rouge around 10:15 p.m. Stearnes is off Plank Road, a little south of Hooper Road.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the victim was shot multiple times. Her name was not released.

Officers went to the location after receiving a report of a woman lying in the road and shots fired in the area.

EMS rushed her to the hospital. Her condition was not given.

According to witnesses, a man was seen running from the area after the shooting. A description was not given.

The investigation is ongoing.
