Suspicious Package Found At Home Of Former Biloxi Mayor

A suspicious package discovered Saturday in Biloxi. was actually discovered on the property of former Biloxi mayor Jerry O'Keefe.

O'Keefe told WLOX News two metal containers, similar to those used to store ammunition, were discovered Saturday morning.

One was found on the driveway, one the sidewalk, near the side of the home on Beach Boulevard.

O'Keefe says his wife called police who then called the bomb squad.

He says authorities were there for hours before they discovered the two containers were empty.

Fire police and emergency workers were also on stand by.

Traffic in both the east and west bound lanes was diverted away from the home for a short time.

O'Keefe says he was told by authorities this was the fourth such incident in Biloxi in recent weeks.

Police say the incident is still under investigation.

O'Keefe served as Biloxi's mayor back in the 1980's.

He is also a well known businessman and philanthropist and has donated millions to Ohr-O'Keefe Museum project.
