Sheriff: Hotel meet up led to new charge against accused teacher

Posted: Updated:
HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A former Hancock High teacher arrested earlier this month for sexual battery involving a student now faces an additional charge. This one comes from authorities in Harrison County, after investigators say they learned the teacher and the 16-year-old student had a sexual encounter at a hotel in their jurisdiction.

Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said his investigators served the warrant to the teacher, who is currently being held at the Hancock County Adult Detention Facility.

A detainer was placed on him, which means if the accused bonds out of jail in Hancock County, he will be immediately transferred to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. His bond in Harrison County is set at $100,000, pending an initial appearance.

WLOX has chosen not to name the educator, or others accused of sexual misconduct, unless they are found guilty in a court of law.
