Lady Cavs credit new assistant Willis for recent success

It was over a month ago Darton State assistant Gene Dews left the team due to health issues and after a physical altercation with an opposing coach.

In stepped Larry Willis, and the Lady Cavs have won 8 of 10 games since.

The late push has vaulted Darton into second place in the GCAA, just behind Georgia Perimeter.

Head Coach David Dews says Willis' impact on the team has been noticed on the field, especially at the plate, where he's worked closely with many of the Lady Cavs hitters.

But Dews says Willis' biggest impact is off the field, where his experience brought immediate trust from the team.

"They're confident in him. A lot of them know who he is. He's sent hundreds of kids to the ACC and SEC," says Dews. "He's been at the highest level of softball and he does a real good job of coaching and instructing. He's just a positive influence with them."

The Lady Cavs have only two series remaining before the State Tournament, including a road series this weekend against the only team ahead of them, Georgia Perimeter.
