SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A Scottsdale police officer was taken to a hospital after his car was rammed during a chase that began in Phoenix and ended in Scottsdale when another officer shot at the suspect before he gave up.

The chase began about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday when Phoenix police officers tried to stop a black Ford Taurus near 52nd and Oak streets, according to Scottsdale Police Officer David Pubins.

Nearby law enforcement agencies were alerted to the car, which was seen on the Loop 101 freeway exiting on McDowell Road, turning into an alley near 70th Street and McDowell Road and turning off the headlights, Pubins said.

The Scottsdale officer and a Department of Public Safety officer entered the alley and as they approached the suspect, the suspect rammed the Scottsdale cruiser with his car, Pubins said.

The DPS officer fired a single shot into the suspect's windshield and the suspect was taken into custody, Pubins said.

The Scottsdale officer, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital as a precaution. The suspect was not hurt.

14 years as part of the Ole Miss football program as a coach or player has prepared Matt Luke for this opportunity. Admittedly it doesn't come under the circumstances he might've envisioned. But with a Rebel bloodline that runs 3 generations deep, the position fulfills a lifelong dream. The Pascagoula Panthers open the 2017 football season on the road. In fact, their first three games are road contests. That scheduling quirk may give field turf crews just enough time to get War Memorial Stadium ready for the September 8 home opener. The wet weather in South Mississippi is placing quite the burden on construction workers as they attempt to complete stadium renovations. The project was suppose to be finished before the beginning of Pascagoula's football season.
