Some Tri-State residents were very close when those bombs exploded in Boston on Monday.

If you're a runner, this is the race you want to be in, and the race some Tri-Staters actually build their vacation around.

But on Monday night, many tell 14 News, they just want to come home.

Michelle Walker, a runner from Evansville, finished the Boston Marathon moments before those bombs went off. She immediately raced to Twitter, and let family and friends know that she was ok, safe inside her hotel room located very close to the finish line.

"To see the news footage, as well as what is going on outside my window, is surreal," Walker told 14 News.

What she saw outside her window was ambulance after ambulance just waiting in line, ready to help.

"We're really lucky!" said Suzanne Holt of Owensboro.

For Holt, this was to be a big day her very first Boston Marathon.  On Thursday, she asked her Facebook friends to pray for her. Now, posting to Facebook from her hotel room, she's asking those same friends to pray for the victims.

"It really puts things into perspective as far as the actual running. You're just glad you're done and safe," Holt said.

Running "The Boston" as they call it, is nothing new for Philip Frey of Newburgh. He was on the phone, telling his mom all about the race, when he suddenly heard two very loud booms.

"When I heard that some people had been killed, I had to leave. I was just sitting at a restaurant. I had to leave and kind of had a little bit of a break down. It's kind of personal," Frey told 14 News.

Dr. Trey Truett of Owensboro, posted his thoughts on Facebook while sitting at Boston Logan International. Even with increased security, he was hoping to get a flight out on Monday night.

"For something like this to happen, just sickens you. It's just horrible," Dr. Truett said.

All of those Tri-Staters question what this will mean for future marathons. They say one thing's for sure, the Boston Marathon will never be the same.

Property taxes are on the way up in both Ocean Springs and Gautier. If you own a home worth $100,000, the increase is another $30. If it's worth $200,000, a $60 increase. And in Gautier, the school taxes are on the rise as well.
