Girl, 7, shot by cousin, 6, in Saucier

SAUCIER, MS (WLOX) -

A 7-year-old girl is in stable condition after she was accidentally shot Sunday night at a home on Hillview Road in Saucier.

Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said the girl's 6-year-old cousin, who lives at the home, had found a loaded 9mm handgun in a bedroom nightstand drawer. He picked up the gun, and accidentally shot the girl in the chest.

Investigators said two adults were home with the shooting occurred. And the Department of Human Services is also now involved, and set to inspect the home. Investigators said the living conditions there were deplorable.

The 7-year-old was transferred to the University of South Alabama Children's & Women's Hospital to continue her medical treatment.
