SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -

A suspect is in custody after two men were shot and wounded during a party at a Surprise apartment Saturday morning, police said.

One of the victims suffered gunshot wounds to his hand and abdomen. The other victim was shot in the hand. They're both expected to be OK.

The suspect, Rudy David Armendariz, 22, of El Mirage, said he shot the men in the parking lot of the complex in the area of 16600 N. Reems Rd., according to Surprise police Sgt. Bert Anzini.

A fight broke out just before 3 a.m. and escalated into the shooting, Anzini said.

Witnesses of the shooting provided police with information that led officers to the suspect, who had taken refuge inside the apartment that was hosting the party.
