Rainfall soaks South Mississippi

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Since about 2 a.m. Sunday, South Mississippi has seen rainfall causing standing water in low lying areas.

The heavy rain should end around noon, but we may see a few showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon.

The rain could cause street flooding for the next couple of hours. Be careful if you're driving this morning.

South Mississippi has received up to 2 1/2 inches of rain since 2 a.m.

"There have also been some down trees in the northwestern portion of Harrison County, as well as power outages," Harrison County Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy said.

There have been several reports of flooding of low lying areas.
